Dagoretti Corner Primary School

Photo by JosephDagoretti Corner has in excess of 500 students.

The World Food Program has started a feeding program for slum schools. Dagoretti Corner Primary School was one of the 3 slum schools in Nairobi city that was awarded such a privilege. The children are fed on maize and beans at lunch time (approx 150 gms each).

Gatwikira Primary School

A new school was started in 2006 in the Gatwikira district of the Kibera slum. The school, which is sponsored by the children of Syndal Baptist Church, Melbourne Australia, currently has four teachers and about 35 students.

Elyon High School

Elyon High School, which occupies the same premises as our vocational training programs, was started a few years ago and now has around 50 students. This school enrols students who are unable to afford to go to the relatively expensive secondary schools in the neighbourhood. The majority of students are orphans or are from very poor families or from the streets.

The library that is attached to the school is multipurpose and includes reading material for vocational trainees and religious materials for the slum pastors and Christians. The World Bank donated many of the books, and the rest were donated by well-wishers. Currently there are around 5000 volumes in the library.

Elyon Junior Academy

Elyon Junior Academy is for pre-school aged children in the Dagoretti Corner / Ngando area.
